Amlib System Features
Supervisor
This module provides a central location to effectively customize the system for each
particular application. This module includes everything from system
calendar and defaults for circulation guidelines to new record defaults and user
security options.
Patron Management
This module
provides detailed management of standard patron information as well as newer
features such as, Cell Phone Notification, Special Interest Profiles and
Housebound management.
Item Maintenance and Inventory Control
This module maintains all items in the database at the individual copy level. Included
in the module are many different features saved popular searches, mass changes,
kit management and full inventory control.
Circulation
This module offers standard checkout, in-house circulation, check-in, book-drop check-in,
location transfers, and reserve/hold capabilities. This module provides
easy-to-use functionality in all of theses areas along with detailed statistics
on these transactions.
Offline Circulation
This module
allows circulation functions to continue within a stand-alone system when the
network or server become unavailable. Transaction are later processed into
the database.
Bookmobile Circulation
This module
has the rare ability to provide library bookmobiles with full featured use of
the circulation system. Not only do bookmobiles have the ability to
checkout and check-in, options to check reading history, pay fines, update
patrons and provide reports are also at your fingertips.
Catalog Maintenance
This module
allows library catalogers to conduct original cataloging, import records from a
file and import records directly into the database via Z39.50. This full
featured module provides many other option such as, full editing capabilities,
access to check authority file, attachment of pictures, audio files, and
websites for active use in the web OPAC.
Authority Control
This module
provides a library with full authority control. Starting with the full
customizability of all MARC tags and subfields in the system, the library may
define any specific entries as authorities and setup default punctuation and
format for each MARC tag. Other options include, authority compare,
authority replace, authority global changes, see and see also management and
more.
Serials Management
This module
provides complete management of serial or periodical records. From
Journals, to magazines, to newspapers, Amlib can manage them all. Direct
association with Supplier records, automatic creation of issue tables and
automatic prompting for routing lists are just a few reasons that this module
will be effective for your library.
Finance and Acquisition
This module
provides a library with full budgetary and ordering capabilities. Handling
income and expense transactions as well as automatic commitment values upon
purchase order being created, gives the library seamless integration between
ordering and the handling of library funds, saving time and money. A full
scope of customizable financial reporting is available in conjunction with this
module. The latest edition to acquisitions is the implementation of
EDIFACT electronic ordering to make acquisitions even more streamlined.
Reports
This module
offers some of the most powerful and flexible reporting options in the industry.
The Amlib report module is second to none. Using a templates based
approach to reporting, hundreds of reports are available to your library, all of
which may be customized for an individual library. Canned of pre-defined
reports are also provided to assist libraries as they begin using reports.
Finally, automatic scheduling of reports to be saved to a file, e-mailed of
printed greatly saves time for overdue notices and regular statistical
reporting.
Community Information
This module is integrated into the standard Amlib system. It allows creation and
management of equipment and facilities in addition to full booking of these
items using an easy-to-use calendar interface.
Self-Checkout
This module
provides libraries with the ability to host a stand-alone self-checkout and
check-in module without requiring any other software. This SIP2 compliant
module can also be implemented as a middleware product to allow integration of
other self-checkout, security and telephone renewal systems.
Web Opac
This module
is the patron interface to the Amlib system. It may be implemented on a
closed internal network or it may be opened up to the world wide web.
Patrons have more options than just searching the library catalog - these days
they have options like reserving and renewing items, managing their account,
sending requests for item, viewing messages from librarians and viewing items
matched to their specific subject interests. Many more options are being
added to maximize patron services online and allow staff more time to interact
with patrons in the library as well.
Z39.50 Client and Server
These modules allow your library to make use of resources outside of your library,
such as libraries in your area and libraries with related special collections.
With the client option, your library has the ability to search other Z39.50
library databases. With the server option, your library has the ability to
host your Z39.50 database, so that other libraries can search your collection.
